Overview
Alamein is one of the cities of Matrouh Governorate, located east of Marsa Matrouh and west of Alexandria, with a population of approximately 10,922 people. The city is divided into three main areas: El Alamein, Sidi Abdel Rahman Village, and Tal Al-Ais Village. The Battle of El Alamein took place on its soil, which is one of the most famous battles of World War II between the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers, in which the forces of the German African Legion were defeated. The city includes cemeteries, memorials, and a museum in memory of the victims of that battle of various nationalities. The city's economy depends mainly on its natural wealth of petroleum, which is being explored by several Egyptian companies, and the tourist areas in which a number of luxurious tourist villages are spread, such as Porto in Marina and Marassi in Sidi Abdel Rahman.Sights
